Role

Shape the success of major civil engineering projects from the ground up.

Our Client has a requirement for a Senior Civil Engineering Estimator, who will be required to work on a permanent basis in Preston.


Role Purpose:

  • Support the successful delivery of tenders across civil engineering projects ranging from £100k to £10m
  • Analyse and interpret project information to develop effective construction and pricing strategies
  • Identify risks and opportunities and incorporate them into competitive tender submissions
  • Lead and coordinate bid activities, ensuring high-quality and timely submissions
  • Contribute to winning work within a strong and growing project pipeline

Job Role Responsibilities:

  • Analyse scheme requirements including construction methods, programmes, and management approaches
  • Identify risks and opportunities and integrate them into tender bids
  • Collaborate with Design and Delivery teams to develop effective work strategies
  • Identify key win themes and manage bid processes with multiple contributors
  • Source and assess additional information required to strengthen tender submissions
  • Challenge designs and methodologies to propose alternative solutions and innovations
  • Price civil engineering works (earthworks, drainage, ducting, paving) from first principles
  • Prepare construction programmes and sequences (ASTA Powerproject experience desirable)
  • Identify and manage subcontract packages, including supplier engagement and tender analysis
  • Compile comprehensive net cost estimates including preliminary items
  • Present estimates at internal adjudication meetings and implement feedback
  • Ensure timely and compliant tender submissions aligned with client specifications
  • Follow up on submitted tenders and support commercial discussions
  • Provide clear project overviews, highlighting risks and opportunities
  • Review tender performance post-contract to support continuous improvement

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

  • Experience within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 infrastructure main contractor environment
  • Strong background in estimating civil engineering projects (bridges, highways, public realm, utilities)
  • Proven ability to price work from first principles
  • Knowledge of Conquest and ASTA Powerproject software (desirable)
  • Good understanding of pricing and quantification methods
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build relationships under pressure
  • Experience leading or supporting teams (desirable)
  • Proficiency in IT, numeracy, MS Office, and estimating systems
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (RICS, CIOB, RIBA, ICE, CIBSE) or equivalent qualification (desirable)
